The Plastics XI are not your typical cricket club. We were formed in the summer of 2016, in what I can only assume was a gin fugue, after much deliberation on practicalities, ethos, and the very nature of victory. We started out playing very, very amateur cricket on Saturday mornings, with a PVC ball, plastic stumps and the vague hope of having some fun. We hope, this year, this 2017 season, to make the huge leap up to playing very amateur cricket on Sundays instead.
We've only played one match so far, and while we lost, to quote every England player in any post-loss interview ever, we very much "took the positives" from our match, in that we didn't disgrace ourselves, and we were lucky enough to find an equally relaxed, equally gin-fueled team for our first match. We already have a number of matches scheduled this year, and we are incredibly excited. All that's left is to argue over the numbering on our caps, breaking out the linseed oil and wiping the cherries off the edges of our bats.

THE TEAMFormed from a collection of players who met on the internet via social cricket at Archbishop's Park, Plastics XI represents the foolhardy members of that group who decided they wanted a bash at proper cricket instead of playing with plastic balls. The team's ability is best described as "weak-weak". Luckily, our social media game is much stronger. Find us on: Archives
