Plastics CC's inaugural game of the 2021 cricket season, a 12-a-side Intra-Plastics extravaganza, was a remarkable success as 501 runs were scored in 76.3 overs with just 8 wickets lost on a flat pitch at Barn Elms Sport Trust. With #DE5285 captain Mark Davies turning up 45 minutes late, a crime for which was suitably punished, former Plastics captain Matt completed the toss with Jerry. Jerry and #FD6C9E won it, opting to bowl. Charlie Bradbury and Pete Bishop got #DE5285 off to an impressive start - both retiring for 47* from their allotted 50 balls. Charles then added 36 (his PB) before some fast runs were added by Joey (53*), Mark (20*) and Tom SC (12). Tom Morgan Grenville grabbed the wickets of Mike and Iain but this did not make up for his earlier drop - which denied Rachel her first ever wicket. From their 40 overs, #DE5285 piled up 250 runs - if #FD6C9E were to chase it, it would be a club record. But, with the pitch as flat as the earth, there was a chance.
Robert and Alex got #FD6C9E off to a flying start jointly scoring 80+ off the first 10 overs. It was made all the more extraordinary given Robert's career strike rate of 43. Alex retired on 55* and Robert on 48*, missing out on his 50 by 10 yards. Liam then added a PB of 26 and Akhil continued the positive momentum with 19. Phil then managed to steer the team home with his 52*, despite a mid-innings wobble with Rachel and Tom MG going for 3 and 13 respectively - the former of which was also a PB. Charlie came away with the best bowling figures for #DE5285 - but this wasn't enough to save them from defeat with 3.3 overs remaining and 7 wickets remaining.

THE TEAMFormed from a collection of players who met on the internet via social cricket at Archbishop's Park, Plastics XI represents the foolhardy members of that group who decided they wanted a bash at proper cricket instead of playing with plastic balls. The team's ability is best described as "weak-weak". Luckily, our social media game is much stronger. Find us on: Archives
