Hot weather conditons saw Plastics flounder against the excellent Roehampton Bats CC this weekend. Plastics too to the field during the hottest part of the day and were taught a cricketing lesson by the opening Bats pairing who hit plenty of 4s and 6s on the tight Barnes Common ground.
The spring of 2020 has been a tough one. Covid has run riot across the country and social cricket was banned so in a highly anticipated return to cricket, Plastics CC began as last season left off with a Plastician size loss. New captain Jerry Jamieson, still yet to win a game as captain, either won or lost the toss and elected or was told that Plastics would be batting first.
Despite the conservative nature of batsman, Plastics CC lost early wickets, leaving them 47-4 of 16 overs and then 82-7 off 22 overs. Plastics CC had been undone by Hewens, the leg spinner, who got Peter Oliver for a golden duck among his 3-23. Pete Bishop top scored amongst the top 5 batsman of the day with a stylish 29, before edging behind and walking. Alex Webster, with the help of the lower order (and a perfect performance from undercover agent Iain), re-established the innings with a fine 85 not out – including a couple of cheeky scoops. Partnerships of 59 and 64 with Jerry Jamieson and Akhil Dogar brought Plastics CC to a challenging total of 204 – 9 off of their 40 overs. The latter partnership was even more impressive considering the injury sustained to Akhil’s genitals in a moment which typified village cricket perfectly – an attempted run out with a very sour end. The CICC chase was effortless due to the outstanding performances of R. Ferreira and S. Smith, who scored 71 and 52 respectively, the 26 extras given away and the poor fielding performance. Highlights of the innings included Jerry Jamieson’s 2-45, and an improved fielding performance, including actual catches, post the drinks break and a wicket for Matty W following a bouncer barrage. Despite this, CICC won the game within 32 overs - showing the ease of the chase. The game was played in a perfectly good-natured fashion, with Covid -19 precautions being followed consistently. Also, the drinks afterwards were top class, evidenced by the fact it resulted in fried chicken. Also, despite having played for and against Clapham In CC in total 4 times, I’ve never understood the name until writing this match report. Clapham In sounds like Clap-him-in, like what you do when a new batsman comes to the crease. Mental. |
THE TEAMFormed from a collection of players who met on the internet via social cricket at Archbishop's Park, Plastics XI represents the foolhardy members of that group who decided they wanted a bash at proper cricket instead of playing with plastic balls. The team's ability is best described as "weak-weak". Luckily, our social media game is much stronger. Find us on: Archives
