Another day another cricket match. Mark leads out the Plastics against our old enemies Crossbats CC. A grim, overcast day was matched by a bright opening pairing with Alex scoring 62 and Robert playing a lovely cut shot (but then getting out). Charles played superbly for 49(!) before Mike and Mark looked to accelerate after drinks.
As usual, Mark accelerated too soon and was out for 8. Mike played well for 20 (a new PB), leaving Charlie and Joey to settle things slightly before a final assault. Joey played a typically robust 30, the wind playing havoc with his usual wheel and allowing the oppo to station five men at mid wicket/cow. Trying to play "through the offside", a cropper became to send Phil in to see us through with Charlie. Charlie falls on his sword for a pragmatic 19. Phil looking good, Jevs resplendent in a Pyongyang University sweater. A cautious last over from Jevs before being run out on the final ball. Plastics finish on 216 for 8 after 35 overs. A solid number to defend, but a consistent astro surface. Jamie and Charlie opened the bowling with a few miserly overs before Neil and Phil added some spice, both taking a wicket each, before fan favourite Jevs did what he did best taking 2 further wickets. Jamie and Charlie returned, the latter unfortunate not to be awarded a caught behind, then Joey and Phil closed out the overs superbly, starving Crossbats of the runs they needed. Fielding was a mixed bag, with a number of dropped chances but also catches from Mark and Jamie, a run out from Mark and a stumping from Alex.

THE TEAMFormed from a collection of players who met on the internet via social cricket at Archbishop's Park, Plastics XI represents the foolhardy members of that group who decided they wanted a bash at proper cricket instead of playing with plastic balls. The team's ability is best described as "weak-weak". Luckily, our social media game is much stronger. Find us on: Archives
