The preparations are well and truly underway for the Plastics XI's second full season as a club, with only one month remaining until our first game - an "intra-Plastics" showdown to warm up for the opposition ahead. With that in mind, here is a handy summary of everything you need to know before it all kicks off in just 31 short days.
First and foremost, let's get a common question out of the way. Where did our name come from? Depending on who you ask on the day and how they feel about the film Mean Girls, you will either be told that our name is derived from the plastic balls the team originally started practicing with, or it is a reference to the film Mean Girls. If you have never had the pleasure of viewing this piece of art, you can watch it here on what I believe to be everybody's third favourite streaming platform (via some kind of perverse injustice, it is available on neither Netflix nor Prime Video). The club also runs weekly screenings of the movie at an undisclosed location. The location will stay undisclosed because the anticipated popularity of the event would lead to overcrowding and safety concerns if it were made public. Next, a social media plug. We have a Twitter account full of often questionable content here, and an Instagram account here that will leap back into action once the season is underway. There's also a Facebook page too, but that is an unsanctioned, rogue entity not controlled by the club's Digital Secretary. Like that at your own risk. Fixtures. We have loads of them. After taking tentative steps in our first season, we now have more than double the matches booked in for the coming months compared to last year. Why not head over to our fixtures page and find out what's coming up? In more exciting news, our first-ever club shirts are in the process of being finalised - complete with a new crest to go with them. There have been some excellent suggestions for the club crest, and I'm sure that the wider cricketing community is waiting with bated breath to see what we have chosen. Finally, welcome to the six new members who have joined us in an official capacity for the new season. A big welcome to Simon, Leo, Jerry, Joey, Alex and Maithri. If you are interested in becoming a ringer for the team that coined the term "weak-weak", please send us a message via the contact page. The countdown to the 2018 season is on!

THE TEAMFormed from a collection of players who met on the internet via social cricket at Archbishop's Park, Plastics XI represents the foolhardy members of that group who decided they wanted a bash at proper cricket instead of playing with plastic balls. The team's ability is best described as "weak-weak". Luckily, our social media game is much stronger. Find us on: Archives
